Community Outreach Grant Program
FAAN is pleased to announce that the 2008 Walk for Food Allergy Community Outreach Grants have been awarded. Communities in the following states received funding through this program: Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nebraska, New Jersey, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
The types of program that received funding for 2008 included:
Training sessions about food allergies for camp counselors and staff
Distribution of the Child Care and Preschool Guide to Managing Food Allergies and training for preschool and child care facility staff
Display booths about food allergies for community fairs
Lending libraries and materials for support groups
Distribution of FAAN educational materials to local physicians to use with their patients
Distribution of the School Food Allergy Program to area schools
Community Outreach Grant Program criteria:
Project proposals will be accepted from 2009 FAAN Walk Chairs only. A maximum of two Community Outreach Grant Program proposals will be accepted per Walk site.
Projects should serve a community in the region of the requester's 2009 FAAN Walk for Food Allergy site and should focus on education, advocacy, and/or awareness. Projects must be completed within one year from the date the grant is awarded.
All grant applications must be submitted electronically. No handwritten applications will be accepted.
Capital expenditures, including buildings, rent, equipment, computers, printers, copiers, speaker fees, Web hosting fees, salaries and overhead, and furniture, will not be funded.
A final report is to be submitted by e-mail no later than one month following completion of the project.
School Nurse Scholarship Program
In 2007, FAAN inaugurated its Walk for Food Allergy School Nurse Scholarship Program. Twenty scholarships were awarded to defray the cost for school nurses to attend the annual conference of the National Association of School Nurses.
School Nurse Scholarship Program criteria:
School Nurse Scholarship nominations will be accepted from 2009 Walk Chairs only. A maximum of two nominations will be accepted per Walk site.
All persons nominated must be currently employed as school nurses serving a community in the region of the Walk Chair's 2009 FAAN Walk for Food Allergy site.
All nominations must be submitted electronically. No handwritten nominations will be accepted.
