Please Help Me Reach My Goal!
I recently accepted the challenge to participate in the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network's (FAAN) Walk for Food Allergy: Moving Toward A Cure. This will be my second year walking with my mom, dad, and sister, as well as a buddy of mine, to help raise funds to find a cure for food allergy and to educate others. FAAN's mission is to raise public awareness, to provide advocacy and education, and to advance research on behalf of all those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.
I have multiple food allergies (peanut, tree nuts, egg, dairy, and sesame), including a life-threatening peanut allergy. I have yet to outgrow any of my food allergies, and without a cure, I may have to deal with them for the rest of my life. I have already experienced anaphylaxis twice, which is really scary because I become unable to breathe in a matter of minutes. The only thing that helps me breathe again is an injection of epinephrine. Thankfully my parents carry it with them at all times. So while I think ambulances are really cool, it's not very fun riding in one after having a potentially fatal reaction. Finding a cure for food allergies would be a dream come true!
