I am participating in the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network?s (FAAN?s) Walk for Food Allergy: Moving Toward A Cure. The event will raise funds to find a cure for food allergy and to educate others.
FAAN?s mission is to raise public awareness, to provide advocacy and education, and to advance research on behalf of all those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.
Our Grandson Riley, (age 4) is severely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. Riley was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition, at the age of one, after ingesting a tiny amount of peanut butter. Riley went into anaphylactic shock immediately, which led to his diagnosis in the ER. He must live a life of strict avoidance; the tiniest amount of the allergen could be fatal for him. Only 20% of children diagnosed with a peanut allergy grow out of their condition. Riley's test results have shown that his allergy is worsening. Along with vigilance to keep him safe, our family is trying to promote awareness and seek a cure.
